The Unstoppable Winx

Oct 29, 2017

Winx, the world’s best female racehorse and the highest ranked turf horse in training has won her 22nd race on end in a G1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on 28 October that proved a tribute to Darley stallions past and present.

Winx, a daughter of Darley’s much-lamented Street Cry, won Australia’s premier weight-for-age race for a third successive year, scoring by a long neck from Humidor, (Teofilo), with Godolphin’s Folkswood (Exceed And Excel) in third place.

In a race run before a sellout crowd, Winx made her first move with 900 metres to run, cruising up to the leaders, before being asked for another effort at the 300 metres where she crossed to the fence and went for home.

Humidor, a dual G1 winner, emerged from the pack to give chase, but was held on the line. Folkswood, who raced in second place for most of the 2,040m race took third place, another 4-1/4 lengths away.

Prior to her latest win, Winx had been listed in second place in the latest official international racehorse rankings, and is now likely to challenge for the top position.

Winx’s record stands at 32 starts for 26 wins and three placings with her racetrack earnings surpassing A$15.5 million.
